Hair Perming Machine mentioned on Radio York

A machine similar to one featured in a display at the Museum was mentioned on a Radio York programme today.  A caller told how she had her hair permed at a village salon when she was 16 years old, and was horrified to find that she was attached to a machine with curlers on it.  The curling was achieved by the heat flowing from the ‘awful contraption’. The presenter was horrified by the idea, and the machine certainly does look frightening.
