Local History Research

UPDATED December 2023

Interested in Nidderdale family history research or local history?

The Museum now has dedicated research sessions for access to its records.

If interested, please sign up via the info@nidderdalemuseum.com email
indicating the general area of your research interests and what type of information you are seeking.

The next sessions for 2024 are scheduled as follows:
Fridays 2-4p.m. on 19th January, 23rd February and 22nd March

Nidderdale Museum has a room where special exhibitions are held and talks are given to groups visiting the Museum.

Our extensive library includes a selection of local history and other books relating to Nidderdale. We also have books and booklets for sale, which can be purchased from the Museum.

We have the facility for accessing local history information and some limited family history records, held at the Museum. If you are interested in using our materials for research purposes, please contact the Museum Secretary to arrange your research visit. We are hoping to set up some regular sessions when you can come and carry out your research, with some of our experienced volunteers to assist you.  If you are interested in this, please send an e-mail to info@nidderdalemuseum.com.

If you would like us to look into some aspect of your family history or other topic, please send us brief information about what you would like researched.  Our volunteers will take an initial look in our records to see if we have anything of use.  If there is nothing, you will be told this, and advised about other avenues you can explore.  If we do have information, then you will be asked to complete a more detailed form, and asked to pay a research fee of £30 to the Museum to cover up to 2 hours work by a volunteer in accessing the information and sending it through to you.  This can be paid by cheque, or via the Make a Donation button below.
